We made it from South Texas to Murfreesboro, Arkansas on our first day of our road trip out east. We encountered beautiful weather other than a few sprinkles. Not much to mention since we’ve made this trek a million times until we get out of Texas. However, we love our Buc-ee’s, so we always try to make these our pit stops through Texas. Clean restrooms, good snacks and plenty of diesel pumps make Buc-ee’s our favorite!
As soon as dark hit, we ran into more fog than we’re comfortable driving in, but we were determined to make it to Crater of Diamonds State Park Campground in Murfreesboro. We made it safely and pulled into our reserved spot at the state park with ease. (Well, truth be told it took us a few laps around the park before we figured out where to go, but the main thing is…we did it.) Since we checked in after the park office was closed, we handled everything over the phone earlier in the afternoon and pulled in our spot after dark with ease.
Although we typically prefer free camping, we opted for a state park this time because it was as close to free as possible. If I remember correctly, it was $41 for the night for full hook ups. Can’t beat that for convenience, safety, and power. A quiet night was exactly what we needed after a long day’s drive. We had a great experience camping here.
Early the next morning, I went for a hike along the Little Missouri River which I highly recommend. The leaves were full of color and the crunch of the leaves under my feet made fall feel real since we don’t have many trees in Corpus Christi.
Walking back to the van, I spotted this great rig.
I was excited to meet @therovingballards! Go show them some love on IG!
After my hike, I grabbed a quick shower in the park facilities (which were quite nice) and we headed to the Crater to dig for diamonds.
The Crater of Diamonds is one of the only places in the world where you can search for diamonds in their original volcanic source. You can dig in a 37-acre field which is the eroded surface of a volcano crater. The fun part is anything you find, you get to keep, whether it’s diamonds, rocks, crystals, gems, etc. We left all the diamonds for the next traveler, but we took home a few fun rocks.
