We got a late start after our night at the Crater of Diamonds State Park in Murfreesboro, Arkansas, so we continued the slow pace and explored a few back roads before making our way in the direction of Alabama. The scenery in Arkansas surprised me and I found myself taking pictures and video at every bend in the road.
I even talked my travel buddy into a Diamond Hunter pic!
Then we decided to get rolling and we made a quick trip through the rest of Arkansas, a smidge of Tennessee, Mississippi and finally rolled into Oak Mountain State Park in Pelham, Alabama close to 10:00 p.m. The person who made our original reservation mistakenly booked us in a tent site which was a bit of a surprise when we arrived. The gate guard was absolutely wonderful and switched our reservation to the last remaining spot with hook ups without charging us for the difference and we were all set for the night.
Oak Mountain State Park
Oak Mountain consists of 11,632 acres close to Birmingham and even though we were only there for a quick overnight stop, we were impressed with both the cleanliness and the natural beauty of the park. We made time before heading out the next morning to enjoy the park and take a few pictures. This state park offers an unbelievable number of things to do and see and seems like it would be a fun family vacation especially with teenagers. From BMX racing, mountain biking, horse riding, hiking, fishing, watersports, etc.
We pressed hard to reach our final destination of Charleston, South Carolina around 7:00 p.m. in the fog and made it to the pre-wedding festivities just in time! More about Charleston coming soon!
